2019 Techno293 World Championship
Chelsea Pennekamp age 16 and Bella Pennekamp age 15 attended the 2019 Techno293 World Championship in Puerto Sherry, Spain on October 26th to 2nd of November.
36 countries were represented by their top windsurfing team members.
Total number of entries 369 sailors. The race classes were youth girls (u17) with 85 participants, youth boys(u17):137,
junior boys(u15):89 junior girls(u15): 58
Both girls sailed in the U17 class in Silver fleet.
On Day 5 Bella Pennekamp found herself on the high speed board in 2nd place.
Chelsea Pennekamp had a particularly exciting race finding herself placed 18th.
This was the first international race the girls have participated in with challenges such as heavy waves, fog, cooler air and heavy crowding on the starting line. Both Bella and Chelsea are looking forward to continuing windsurfing competitively and mastering the iFoil as the World Sailing Council have selected the iFoil as the men’s and women’s windsurfing equipment at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Chelsea and Bella could not have been more proud to carry the flag of the Bahamas and represent this island nation during a time when their home island of Grand Bahama has suffered such devastation from Hurricane Dorian.
